Birthday Special – September 28th 2013

Plus more TBA

East Village Arts Club – Formally The Masque Theatre

90 Seel Street, Liverpool, L1 4BH

As we move rapidly through the year and head toward the Circus birthday it is perhaps time to reflect on the last 12 months and showcase the commitment, dedication and passion that is so prevalent in every aspect of Circus, and how it is regarded as a ‘must visit’ club for any serious fan of Electronic music. Curated confidently by one of the U.K.s leading exponents of the scene, Yousef, ensuring the perfect selection of defined and established artists, balanced with exciting, young producers that are part of the growing Circus family. An authority on the global House and Techno scene Yousef has shaped and developed the Liverpool events, galvanizing the blueprint for his London and Ibiza sessions. Yousef continues to break new ground with developing talent, but also combine the learned experience of maturity, by securing the finest established artists.

The last 12 months have seen Circus recordings continue to nurture new and developing producers such as David Glass and Acid Mondays while still connecting and collaborating with ambassadors of the scene such as Laurent Garnier, Green Velvet, Carl Cox, Steve Lawler and Sasha. The later has partnered with Yousef on their Thunderbird project, and all have contributed to the Circus X compilations. Both compilations showcasing exactly the friend and family mentality and support each artist has towards Circus. Yousef said ‘I just picked up the phone and asked, I expected to get one album out of my requests but ended up with two, showing the love and respect we have built amongst the guys…’

Yousef’s own production endeavors continue to go from strength to strength, his relentless approach to the task at hand and his unequivocal refusal to accept anything but the best has delivered him not only to the hands of Defected, where he released one of their biggest releases to date entitled ‘Beg’, he has also lined up several other key releases taken from his sophomore album, ‘A Product of Your Environment’ which was also released last year. But as we move towards the birthday perhaps the biggest story is the signing of Yousef’s recent production to FFRR / Warner Records for a global release. Float Away featuring The Angel was A&Red by Damian Lazarus and Pete Tong, and is a expertly crafted, deep vocal House journey that is already being heralded as a ‘classic’ by his peers and the all important clubbers on the dance floors. Due for an end of August release, expect to hear this everywhere through the summer months.

A stalwart on the Island scene for many years, including being part of the Carl Cox residents team at Space, Yousef brings Circus to the newly opened Booom Club in Ibiza Town, selecting DJs that bring their authentic take on House and Techno to the proceedings and include Sasha, Steve Lawler, Booka Shade, Jesse Rose, Deetron, Danny Tenaglia, Scuba, Guti, Miguel Campell plus more. Full line up details can be found at

Now we count down to the birthday, confirmed so far are Seth Troxler, Cassy, Scuba, Catz and Dogz, The Angel (live) and the residents Yousef, Lewis Boardman and Scott Lewis.

With more announcements to come, this initial line up should whet the appetite of any ardent and hardened fan of underground House, Techno and Electronic music scene.

Seth Troxler, the man, the myth, one of Detroit’s new found sons, voted number #1 in the RA DJ poll 2013 and validated by Techno hierarchy, Carl Craig, this favourite of Circus will be smacking down his trade mark deep fusion of House, Techno and minimal spacial vibery. Playing across the globe at venues and events such as Fabric (London), Panorama Bar and Watergate (Berlin), Womb (Tokyo), Tenax (Florence), Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), The Rex (Paris), Fuse (Brussels), Avalon (LA), The End Up (San Francisco) plus The Detroit Electronic Music Festival and Mutek. No slouch in the studio either with collaborations with Matthew Dear, Art Department, Tiefschwarz, Deetron, Masemenos and dOP, in addition to groundbreaking remix work done as Visionquest alongside fellow producers Shaun Reeves, Ryan Crosson and Lee Curtiss, their Visionquest record label has become one of the hottest properties in dance music today.

Making a welcome return to Circus is Cassy, resident at Berghains Panorama Bar in Berlin, she brings a super stylish swagger to her DJ sets as she fuses, shapes, and creates her sound. Balancing House and Techno and infusing it with soul, hinting at her Viennese roots and traditionalism as she continues to use vinyl, Cassy will be adding her gentle touch to the dance floor and with releases on such pioneering imprints such as Playhouse, Perlon, Ostgut Ton and Cocoon, it is quality assured.

Keeping the pressure on and standards high, Scuba get added to the Circus melting pot ensuring maximum heat for the floor and to give the big rig of sound a full workout. London born and breed but now residing in Berlin, Paul Rose AKA Scuba cut his teeth in the Jungle and Techno scene and was an early adopter in the Dub-step movement. Bringing his love of Bass music together with Techno his early albums have reached worldwide acclaim and his Hotflush label has turned out Techno tracks and releases from luminaries such as George FitzGerald to some of the most experimental and important music of the past few years by artists like Joy Orbison, Untold, Mount Kimbie, and Sepalcure. Berghain once again adding weight and strength by giving Scubas SUB:STANCE event a Friday night residency which ran for five successful years, ending in July this year.

And it keeps coming…

Polish DJ and production duo, Catz and Dogz come armed with plenty of audio treats for the Circus floor and have certainly qualified themselves as worthy associates of Circus. Making their mark in the Tech House field with 3 full album productions under their belt, this duo have slowly, but surely been working their way through the ranks to be regarded as key artists in the scene. They have released and remixed tracks on Claude VonStrokes Dirty Bird label and joined the rosters of some of the most respected underground labels in the world: Trapez, Crosstown Rebels, Pokerflat, Boxer, Leena, and Trenton. Now with Pet Recordings as their wholly owned imprint, the guys are weaving their way across global dance floors, charming world wide clubbers with their bass-heavy, colourful, groove laden DJ sets.

Finally we move to The Angel [LIVE]. Signed to Warner / FFRR, Yousef’s live project has been making a huge impact across the globe, written and produced by Yousef himself it is already being tipped by his peers as a defining moment in his production career.

Supported by Circus resident DJs Lewis Boardman and Scott Lewis.

HIIO Feat. Terri B! – Something About You

February 28, 2013

South American duo HIIO (pronounced H2O) have arrived in 2013 with their attempt at creating a classic house tune. There’s definitely some classic house vibes here in the synths, the Planet Perfecto influence is pretty obvious. But this track is much slower than anything Planet Perfecto ever put out, and as a result it’s not… View Article

Arty, Nadia Ali & BT – Must Be The Love (Official Music Video)

February 24, 2013

BT is a legend of Trance production, Nadia Ali is a legend of Trance vocals. Any team up between these two is bound to be good, but when you throw in relative newcomer but excellent producer Arty into the mix as well, are we witnessing collaborative genius or are too many cooks spoiling the broth?… View Article

Kirsty – Hands High (Afrojack Radio Edit)

February 23, 2013

Who is Kirsty? We don’t know either, but this looks like her attempt to crack the commercial dance scene and she’s enlisted the help of Afrojack who provides remix duties. Apparently Sander Van Doorn said “supporting!” and David Guetta said “huge!” Although we’d question how much thought they gave to their answers when questioned. The… View Article
