Before his appearances at SW4 and Creamfields, we caught up with emerging talent Tim Mason. The Brighton based DJ has played alongside numerous superstars of EDM and his skills in both DJ’ing and production (first single The Moment was supported by Laidback Luke, Tiesto and others) have gained him thousands of fans worldwide. Part of Steve Angello’s Size Records, Mason has a bright future ahead of him and is certainly one to look out for. And of course – he’s from Brighton.
Tim, you’re playing SW4. You’re not unfamiliar to playing alongside world famous DJs, but just how does it feel to be lining up with Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo?
I grew up watching those guys DJ! It’s an honour to be sharing a stage with them.
You’re from Brighton, which for such a small city seems to produce some huge names in dance music. How important do you feel the Brighton scene is, and how do you see it going in the future?
Brighton is definitely an inspiring city and a bit of a creative melting pot, I wouldn’t put it down to the scene as such, it’s more the place.
Your remixes have been supported by the likes of Steve Angello, Tiesto, Laidback Luke and Dirty South. How has this exposure helped you in recent months?
I think a large part of the reason why I’m doing what I’m doing is down to what I’ve been doing ha ha. I put everything into everything I do and my remixes are no exception and I’m so happy people like them and DJ’s play them and very grateful that DJ’s of that level support my music.
Can you tell us about any up and coming releases you have in the pipeline?
I’ve been playing my new single a lot recently, that will be released soon. Working on a couple more singles and a couple of collaborations as well, watch this space :)
Are there any plans either currently or in your mind to play in your home town?
I played at Coalition a few months ago, it was my first ever hometown show! Looking forward to the next time. Digital’s always been my favouroite club down there, I also loved the Fatboy Slim Big Beach Boutique’s too but I think theyre not happening any more.
Back to SW4. What do you hope to bring to the show to ensure people remember you?
I just love music and I love sharing it with people that love music. I’m playing quite early so I can make it up to Creamfields for my set that same evening so I’m going to try and kick off the festival with a bang.
What setup do you play with?
4 CDJ 2000’s and a Pioneer DJM 900 preferably.
There’s been a lot of controversy over live DJ performances with some big names being caught out. How do you feel about this?
Every DJ I know or have ever met or seen has always played live. I think people need to stop looking for problems and enjoy themselves a bit more.
Who are you personally hoping to catch at SW4? Can you give us any hints on your set list or will you just play by the crowd?
I always play to the crowd, but I’ll definitely be playing my new single. I would love to stick around but have to shoot off to Creamfields!
