“We all read about the Detroit Urban Farms project and saw the documentaries about it and it really moved us all. To see a community reclaiming the crumbling city blocks to grow the food they need is an incredible story in so many ways. It was moving, topical and also a beautiful and apt illustration of what the song is actually about – triumph over adversity. As a video concept, it was perfect from all angles.”
Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness

Initially inspired by an article written by journalist Paul Harris on Detroit’s urban renewal city farms, the video for Above & Beyond and Gareth Emery pres. OceanLab ‘On A Good Day (Metropolis)’captures the song’s essential meaning of triumph over adversity through the powerful, visual narrative of the Georgia Street Community Collective and their determination to make a better, brighter life for their local community.

Since the collapse of a once thriving automotive industry, Detroit has become known as a monument of urban decay with disused warehouses, derelict wasteland and vacant factories peppering the city.Georgia Street Community Collective are one of many organisations harnessing local action and bringing community volunteers together to create positive results – regenerating wasteland as urban farms and community gardens.

Directed by Steve Glashier who has made videos for Fatboy Slim and Juliette Lewis, the real stars of this video is the Georgia Street Community Collective themselves and the many members of theDetroit community who unite to transform their local surroundings.

As part of their 2011 US tour, Above & Beyond will also be playing a Detroit charity gig to raise money for the Georgia Street Community Collective’s current projects which include building a computer lab and neighbourhood library.

Above & Beyond takeover London’s O2 Brixton Academy on 31 October.

HIIO Feat. Terri B! – Something About You

February 28, 2013

South American duo HIIO (pronounced H2O) have arrived in 2013 with their attempt at creating a classic house tune. There’s definitely some classic house vibes here in the synths, the Planet Perfecto influence is pretty obvious. But this track is much slower than anything Planet Perfecto ever put out, and as a result it’s not… View Article

Arty, Nadia Ali & BT – Must Be The Love (Official Music Video)

February 24, 2013

BT is a legend of Trance production, Nadia Ali is a legend of Trance vocals. Any team up between these two is bound to be good, but when you throw in relative newcomer but excellent producer Arty into the mix as well, are we witnessing collaborative genius or are too many cooks spoiling the broth?… View Article

Kirsty – Hands High (Afrojack Radio Edit)

February 23, 2013

Who is Kirsty? We don’t know either, but this looks like her attempt to crack the commercial dance scene and she’s enlisted the help of Afrojack who provides remix duties. Apparently Sander Van Doorn said “supporting!” and David Guetta said “huge!” Although we’d question how much thought they gave to their answers when questioned. The… View Article
