Guest DJ of the Week #4: Kashii

We’re very excited about this week’s Guest DJ because he hails from right here in Brighton, and represents one of our city’s finest labels: Southern Fried. Kashii is a house, garage and dubstep DJ and producer, who, like a musical magpie, flits from genre to genre, selecting the best bits and blending somewhat disparate styles together with ease.

Kashii’s played alongside Zinc, A-Trak and Skream, and in June released his ‘Tru Da City’ EP, a collection of laidback tunes made in the UK Garage tradition.

In this mix that plays like a timely tribute to old school house and garage, Kashii takes us on a journey that checks beautifully lilting melodies and some euphoric breakdowns, though his playful style ensures there are no dips in energy, and keeps everything fresh. There are tunes by Joy Orbison and L-Vis 1990, as well as Kashii himself.

Kashii plays live at Volks on the 3rd November. Make sure you’re there.

Cosmic Revenge – Hurricane Blues

Mosca – Square One

Supra1 – Ghoster

Pariah – Crossed Out

C.R.S.T. – Jam For You

Girl Unit – Temple Keys

Greenmoney – Bashment House

DJ Sdunkero – Choosing Love

Leon – Let Me

L-Vis 1990 – Forever You

We are always looking for the next awesome DJ. If that’s you, and you’d like to join in these ranks, email your mix uploaded to Mixcloud, to mixes@maxumi.co.uk.

HIIO Feat. Terri B! – Something About You

February 28, 2013

South American duo HIIO (pronounced H2O) have arrived in 2013 with their attempt at creating a classic house tune. There’s definitely some classic house vibes here in the synths, the Planet Perfecto influence is pretty obvious. But this track is much slower than anything Planet Perfecto ever put out, and as a result it’s not… View Article

Arty, Nadia Ali & BT – Must Be The Love (Official Music Video)

February 24, 2013

BT is a legend of Trance production, Nadia Ali is a legend of Trance vocals. Any team up between these two is bound to be good, but when you throw in relative newcomer but excellent producer Arty into the mix as well, are we witnessing collaborative genius or are too many cooks spoiling the broth?… View Article

Kirsty – Hands High (Afrojack Radio Edit)

February 23, 2013

Who is Kirsty? We don’t know either, but this looks like her attempt to crack the commercial dance scene and she’s enlisted the help of Afrojack who provides remix duties. Apparently Sander Van Doorn said “supporting!” and David Guetta said “huge!” Although we’d question how much thought they gave to their answers when questioned. The… View Article
