Born and raised in musical capital Memphis, Tennessee, Cheri Moons career started off with Gospel singing in her local family Choir at the age if eight. Her youth was studded with numerous talent awards and her obsession with stars such as Tina Turner and Grace Jones led Moon to pursue her musical ambitions in the New York club scene where she became a sought after performer. A modelling career also followed after an agent spotted her exotic and distinguished looks whilst performing in clubs.
Now, fast forward to 2010, and Moon is clearly keen to explore dance music with the release of “One More Crazy Summer”, a synth-house track featuring her excellent vocals. The release comes in the guise of a lot of remixes, coming from Audiofreaks, Bassmonkeys, Chris Gustafsson, Lee Mortimer, Loverush UK!, Soulshaker and Stereojackers. Phew! The highlight mix is the Swedish House Mafia sounding Audiofreaks remix. The opening of the track is sweetly done, Moons vocals punctuated by a guitar chord, signalling the impending synth-assault. The track is fairly atypical, the sound is not very original and anyone into their house will wonder what the fuss is about. But it’s Cheri Moon’s vocals, honed to near perfection, that are the highlight of the release. It’s really a bit of a shame that more coveted producers such as Axwell or FLG have not had their hands on Cheri’s vocals to create a track that perfectly suits her ability, but with the release of One More Crazy Summer, perhaps Moon can now break into the big time and catch the eye of those more palpable producers to produce something truly spectacular.
The release is out on the 6th September.
